The Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo has grown into a vital platform for cultural trade and cooperation along the Silk Road.
Over the past eight sessions, exhibitors from China and beyond have brought their distinctive products to Dunhuang, seeking display, exchange, and business deals. From Ghanaian drums to Gansu's marmot plush toys, the expo embraces diverse offerings and facilitates cross-cultural connections.
The event has drawn increasing participation from Gansu firms, domestic enterprises, and companies from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
The 2nd expo in 2017, focusing on cultural trade, hosted over 500 cultural businesses from nearly 20 countries and 20 Chinese provinces, yielding fruitful trade results and setting a model for later sessions.
The 8th expo in 2025 saw a diverse array of products. A Pakistani trader brought jade artifacts, a Vietnamese vendor offered coffee and durian cakes, and a Ghanaian businessman presented drums and batik, hoping to make his products a cultural bridge between Africa and China.
Dunhuang, once a key Silk Road trading hub, now vitalizes that role. The expo is boosting tourism and market confidence and energizing cultural industries, turning diverse civilizations into living, traded treasures and fueling prosperity for all participants.
