This summer, Dunhuang is bringing its rich medical heritage to life through a range of traditional therapies. The services have quickly gained popularity among travelers, adding a wellness dimension to Silk Road tourism.

To meet growing demand, Dunhuang has launched traditional Chinese medicine night markets at busy areas such as Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring scenic spot and the Dunhuang Night Market, bringing ancient medical wisdom directly to visitors.

Dunhuang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital has developed health products based on the philosophy of medicine-food homology. Free seasonal teas are now offered in hospital waiting areas and tourist service centers, an example of the renowned Dunhuang hospitality.

Official statistics show that 34 medical prescription manuscripts were preserved in the Dunhuang Library Cave. Interdisciplinary teams have been systematically sorting through murals and texts to trace therapeutic origins.

The hospital has compiled a handbook featuring 30 effective formulas covering internal, external, gynecological, pediatric, and other conditions, as well as dietary and cosmetic remedies. Dunhuang, once a key hub on the ancient Silk Road, served caravans and garrisons, with ancient bamboo slips recording both human and animal medicine.

This year, the hospital also introduced acupuncture weight-loss services inspired by mural exercise medicine and expanded into modern beauty and wellness fields.
