Dunhuang's intangible cultural heritage fair brings traditions to life
A fair themed on intangible cultural heritage has concluded its vibrant showcase at Feitian Park in Dunhuang, Gansu province, offering attendees an immersive journey into the region's rich cultural tapestry.
The event highlighted 12 unique Dunhuang intangible cultural heritage projects, including paper-cutting, painted sculpture, stone powder painting, metal engraving, sand painting, and root carving. Visitors had the opportunity to watch artisans demonstrate their skills on-site and even try their hand at these traditional crafts.

Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed a variety of performances, including Dunhuang Quzi Opera — a folk art form popular in Dunhuang for over a thousand years — as well as folk songs and traditional dances, all of which showcased the charm of the region's rich culture.
An accompanying exhibition offered insights into the stories and significance of Dunhuang's intangible heritage, allowing visitors to gain a deeper appreciation of these traditions.
The fair also featured a variety of engaging activities, including quizzes on intangible cultural heritage, where participants could win beautifully crafted souvenirs such as heritage-themed fans and creative tote bags.
