The Dunhuang Culture Global Promotion Initiative was launched on May 21 at the 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair.
Co-initiated by the Gansu International Communication Center (GICC) and the Dunhuang Academy, the initiative aims to integrate authoritative academic resources with international communication channels to promote Dunhuang culture worldwide and facilitate mutual learning among civilizations.
It aims to make Dunhuang culture tangible, accessible, and respected. Three core action paths combining online and offline efforts were outlined.
For the online component, the GICC's multilingual platforms will serve as a hub to launch the "Dunhuang Echoes" series on overseas social media, and set up columns featuring Dunhuang culture, with regular posts on mural interpretations and conservation, as well as global interactive topics.
For content innovation, a global short video initiative will produce micro-documentaries on restorers and archaeologists, use AI and animation to bring classic murals to life, and recruit overseas creators to produce Dunhuang-themed vlogs from their perspectives.
Offline, joint immersive "Digital Dunhuang" touring exhibitions will be held at overseas museums and China Cultural Centers, alongside international academic salons on the contemporary significance of Dunhuang culture.
As a cultural landmark on the ancient Silk Road, Dunhuang embodies mutual learning among civilizations. This initiative blends academic support with cutting-edge communication methods, revitalizing the ancient Silk Road civilization in the digital age.
