Dunhuang has achieved full multilingual service coverage across its major scenic spots and cultural venues, breaking language barriers for foreign tourists along the Silk Road.
The city has built a comprehensive international service system integrating offline and online resources, as well as hardware and software, including multilingual signage, professional foreign-language guides, and smart cultural tourism platforms.
At the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring scenic spot, clear Chinese-English bilingual signs are everywhere, with key zones adding signs in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean.
Zhao Suling, manager of the scenic spot's visitor center, said the site regularly provides foreign language training for frontline staff and has set up bilingual volunteer posts to offer multilingual assistance.
A new AI-powered audio guide system will soon be launched, providing customized multilingual commentary based on visitors' pace and preferences.
Meanwhile, the "China Bound Dunhuang" English smart platform consists of a website and a multilingual mini-program, covering pre-trip information, attraction details, ticket booking, accommodation, and dining. It also offers smart translation, currency conversion, and itinerary planning.
