In Dunhuang, a group of cultural creativity specialists is dedicated to bringing the city's ancient heritage to life. As cultural creative product craftsmen, they transform traditional culture into modern products.
According to Zhuang Junting, deputy director of the Dunhuang Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau's employment guidance and training center, over 9,000 cultural products have been developed, with more than 100 design patents obtained.
These efforts have not only boosted cultural tourism but also created over 2,500 local jobs annually. More than 20,000 people have been trained and 17 cultural enterprises established, collaborating with over 300 brands across China.
Training programs focus on helping participants translate cultural symbols into practical products. Xiao Jizu, a cultural creativity trainer, said the programs emphasize skills such as cultural interpretation, creative thinking, storytelling, and the use of design and marketing software.
Wang Yanjun, a Dunhuang cultural creative product craftsman, incorporates Dunhuang's rich heritage into ceramic art. Drawing on his expertise in ceramics from Quanzhou, Fujian province, he creates Dunhuang-inspired items like coffee cups, tea sets, and artistic ceramic pieces.
From government planning to targeted training and individual creativity, Dunhuang is building a comprehensive cultural industry chain. The city's cultural creative product specialists have gained widespread recognition, enabling locals to thrive through cultural craftsmanship.
Increasing numbers of young people are now coming to Dunhuang, using their skills to revitalize the ancient Silk Road city's rich heritage.
