A replica of Mogao Cave 3 — part of the celebrated grotto complex containing ancient murals, statues, and artifacts in Dunhuang, Gansu province — is currently on display from Sept 21 to 25.
It's being shown at the Exhibition on the Achievements of Dunhuang Academy in Building a "Model" and "High Ground", part of the 8th Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo.
Located in Hall B of the Dunhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center, the replica recreates the intricate murals of the cave, allowing visitors to feel as if they are stepping into the authentic grotto.
The original cave is the most important Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) grotto of the Mogao Caves and the only cave dedicated to the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in Dunhuang.
