Dunhuang cultural expo to show Silk Road splendor
The 8th Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo will open on Sept 21 in Dunhuang, celebrating the rich heritage of Silk Road civilizations and cross-cultural exchange.
The three-day event, themed "Strengthening Cultural Exchanges and Promoting Mutual Learning Among Civilizations", will feature 17 activities across seven categories — including forums, exhibitions, and cultural performances — to foster cooperation among countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
This year's Dunhuang Forum will host 12 thematic sessions focusing on cultural heritage conservation and Dunhuang studies, with the latest research achievements to be released.
The exhibition area spans 24,000 square meters, highlighting new developments in Dunhuang research, cultural artifacts from BRI countries, and Gansu's intangible cultural heritage products.
Cultural performances will highlight the event, featuring the debut of the upgraded dance drama Flower Rains along the Silk Road, concerts by Hong Kong orchestras, and multinational artistic collaborations. Flash mob performances will also be organized at popular tourist sites including Dunhuang Night Market and Mingsha Mountain.
