The touring exhibition, Guardianship and Inheritance: The Spirit of Mogao, opened at the Lanzhou Museum on the morning of Sept 6. The exhibition is divided into six sections that trace the origins of the Silk Road, cave construction, mural techniques, and the enduring legacy of Dunhuang.
Systematically presenting the 80-year history of the Dunhuang Academy, the exhibition highlights the institution's efforts in conservation, research, and promotion of the cave.
In addition to helping people understand the academy's development and experience, it aims to present the stories behind the cave art, the essence and legacy of the Mogao Spirit, and the unique allure of Dunhuang culture.
For over eight decades, generations of conservators and researchers, represented by pioneers such as Chang Shuhong, Duan Wenjie, and Fan Jinshi, have persevered in the desert, showing dedication, responsibility, and innovation.
Their achievements in the protection, research, and promotion of the Dunhuang Caves hold leading significance in the field of cultural heritage conservation studies. The exhibition highlights their endeavors, showcasing the extraordinary legacy of pioneering work in the protection and research of the Mogao Caves.
Through this display of their dedication and accomplishments, the exhibition embodies the Mogao Spirit of committing one's whole life to a single cause. It will be on display until Oct 8 in the East Hall of the Lanzhou Museum.
