To make Dunhuang's cultural heritage more accessible, Dunhuang Academy has embraced innovative collaborations.
Its creations, ranging from reverse pipa playing figurines to home items with the theme of nine-colored deer, now serve as bridges connecting ancient civilization with modern life, sparking growing interest among youth.
Notable examples include limited-edition collectibles developed with Bilibili, which gained popularity within anime communities, and digital immersive exhibitions that use cutting-edge technology to engage Generation Z.
These efforts have expanded globally through exhibitions in New Zealand, France, and the United States, where VR experiences allow international audiences to explore the caves virtually. Cultural gifts presented overseas have opened up international markets, with products available via Tmall.
As one of China's first pilot institutions for museum cultural product development, Dunhuang Academy has partnered with over 20 brands since 2016, launching projects spanning technology, lifestyle, and digital sectors.
In the future, the academy will continue to find new ways to combine Dunhuang's cultural heritage with modern trends, injecting new vitality into its preservation and development.
