Sixteen journalists and photographers from 10 countries — including South Korea, the United States, and Spain — were immersed in Dunhuang's rich cultural tapestry through the theatrical production Encore Dunhuang on July 21.
In a purpose-built indoor venue, the performance blended history, multimedia, and audience interaction to vividly portray the legacy of the Mogao Caves and Silk Road civilization.
Encore Dunhuang follows six key figures across five iconic scenes, tracing the rise and transformation of Dunhuang's famed flying apsara murals and the lives of generations who safeguarded them.
American journalist Wang Zhuang from China Daily described the experience as deeply moving and unlike anything he'd seen: "Being part of the performance, watching Dunhuang's eras unfold through light and sound — it was immersive, powerful, and poignant."
