[3rd Expo Review] China Jiayuguan International Short Film Festival opens with a focus on documentary innovation
As part of the 3rd Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo, the 7th Jiayuguan International Short Film Exhibition featured over 20 events from Sept 28 to 30, 2018.

This year's short film exhibition, themed "Forty Years: Documenting China," has undergone a significant upgrade, particularly in investment and distribution, integrating innovative forces in documentary filmmaking.
The festival's opening event, the "documentary filmmakers' lecture hall", was held on the morning of Sept 28. Jin Delong, former deputy editor-in-chief of the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, delivered an insightful lecture. He highlighted the importance of documentary imagery in preserving and transmitting revolutionary culture, drawing on nearly four decades of Chinese documentary filmmaking.

In the afternoon, the "documentary filmmakers' lecture hall" series continued with industry experts sharing their insights. Zhou Xiaohan, vice president of Himalaya FM and head of the Super IP Division, discussed the role of audio in enhancing documentary storytelling. Meanwhile, Dai Nianwen, producer of the documentary "This is Life", shared his experiences in creating and distributing reality-themed documentaries.

Guided by the National Film Administration and hosted by the Gansu provincial government, the festival featured a series of high-profile events, include the "Recording a New Era—Commemorating 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up" television program exhibition and awards ceremony, and the "China's Real Image Market Breakthrough" summit forum.
