Sculpting the 'greenness' of life
"Creation is my life force"
In 1982, He was transferred to Xi'an Film Studio to make Dunhuang sculpture props for the movie "Flower Rains along the Silk Road". There He saw four works she copied in a picture album. She was very happy when she saw the signature of the work at first, but then she felt disappointed.
She said: "Even if we copy the works of the ancients very well, the light of this art will always belong to the ancients, not to us. We should create works of our time.”
Since then, He has devoted herself to the innovation and followed her inner feelings in her creation. In 1984, she conceived "Yellow River — The Mother" with her infinite love for the nation. He said: "We are children of the Yellow River, and our children are also children of the Yellow River. Mother is eternal."
Mother symbolizes the Chinese nation, and the child borrowed a photo of her daughter, which means that the Chinese nation is endless and has a long history.
At present, the statue of "Yellow River — The Mother" has become a landmark of Lanzhou city.
He has always hoped to have a platform where she can better display her creativity. In 1994, the 57-year-old founded the Gansu He E Sculpture College.
In the past 30 years, the college has built more than 200 sculpture projects in 22 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China, presenting the insights gained from Dunhuang traditional culture and taking on responsibility for the culture of the new era.
"The only thing I can dedicate to the nation is sculpture!" Today, He is still creating and has a lot of artistic inspiration. She said that creation is the source of her life.
