Live performances highlight Dunhuang's history
The Chinese classic dance dramas Flower Rains Along the Silk Road and Tales of the Silk Road were simultaneously staged at the Gansu Grand Theater and the Lanzhou Concert Hall on the evening of Feb 18.
The following day, the large-scale immersive live-action drama Encore Dunhuang opened its 2023 show season.

Flower Rains Along the Silk Road has been performed a total of 3,874 times and watched by more than 5.07 million people, becoming a cultural business card of Gansu and a perfect example of telling Chinese stories to the world.
It has been staged in over 40 countries and regions, as well as at the celebrations of the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, at the opening ceremony of the Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo among other major national events.

Tales of the Silk Road is based on the love story between the young painter Mogao and the general's daughter, Yueya. Telling the story of the gorgeous Mogao Grottoes murals, the drama displays Dunhuang's historical and cultural scenery of frontier troops, wealthy businessmen, singers, and traffickers...
It has won many awards, including China's Lotus Award, the top national award for dance performances.

"Give me some time, and I will give you back a thousand years of Dunhuang." The large-scale immersive live-action drama Encore Dunhuang attracted mass attention upon its debut.
The drama reproduces the whole process of the Mogao Grottoes, from its birth to its heyday, until the unveiling of the thousand-year-old mystery through three-dimensional and multi-layered interpretations. It is a must-see for tourists visiting Dunhuang.
