The beautiful murals of Dunhuang and their rich embodiment of historical, cultural and aesthetic messages have constantly inspire today's artists, even if they work with different materials and methods.
In an effort to renew people's experiences in appreciating Dunhuang art, theone.art, a digital art platform, recently launched a series of Dunhuang mural-themed artworks represented by the non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, a form of cryptocurrency.
Collectors are promised with a gamified process involving fun and new technology. People purchase the artworks -- seven still digital images in total -- in the form of "blind box", a fad type of packaging that keeps the content a secret until it is unpacked by its buyer. An assembly of three, five or seven images will access collectors to acquiring an NFT artwork.
