Filigree enamel paintings show ancient and modern styles of Dunhuang
A batch of exquisite antique filigree enamel paintings were showcased at the 27th China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair on July 11, and were well-received by domestic and overseas visitors.
Filigree enamel painting evolved from ancient cloisonne enamel crafts, and is a unique painting technique that transplanted imperial enamel techniques onto drawing boards.
They are formed through 10 hand-made processes involving filigrees and kyanite glaze. The most important three processes are line drawing, wire inlaying and coloring, which are respectively known as the soul, bones and flesh of filigree enamel painting. Every process is purely completed by hand, requiring extraordinary skill from craftsmen.
Nowadays, filigree enamel paintings are used in musical instruments, furniture and decorations, as well as for producing a series of cultural and creative products.
